Drawing not looking at latest 3D model

Drawing not looking at latest 3D model

Dear all,

We recently ran in to problems with people who trying to promote a drawing, the 3D model with this drawing and the Windchill part. The promotor looks at the drawing useing Productview and sees a weird status: "concept model" instead of "under review" in the drawing right-corner.

What happened is that the engineer made changes to his 3D model and checked in his 3D model without checkin out and updating his drawing. So the drawing is not looking at the latest itteration 3D model anymore but the one before that and also showing the status of this non latest itteration.

I am glad the promotor saw this error and reported this,

What can we do to prevent this situation of happening (we allready trained engineers to be aware of this situation but thats not enough) Can we make a report that searches for drawings not looking at the latest itteration 3D model?

Also I want to prevent the creation of "out of date" secondary content or stale secondary content. There are still engineers who click away the warnings at checkin-in. So I would like to force a checkin error whenever stale secondairy content is about to be checked in.

Kind regards,

Dennis Varkevisser

We have this same issue. We no longer use Promotion Request, and are now
using soft-typed ECNs for our engineering changes (Prototype and
PreProduction).

What I have planned to do is to put an expression robot in the workflow to
verify that a drawing refers to the latest part/assembly.

If it isn't, i will send a rework task to the submitter to update the
drawing. I would like to make this step go away and automatically update
the drawing, but I'm not sure I'll be able to do that because of the cad
associations...

Hi,
I do not have a solution to this, but it can be related to the publisher
using the As Stored configuration of the drawing. This will show the
previous iteration of the 3D model, which was checked in with the drawing.
When the final approved viewable is made, the configuration in the
Promotion Request will be used and give a correct viewable at that point
in time.
We have a related issue here, where the viewable created from the
Promotion Request and the Default representation a not equal, when the 3D
model is iterated without the drawing and then promoted.
