Hard Model to Standard Soft Type Conversion

I am using Windchill PDMLink Release 11.0 and Datecode with CPS M030-CPS17

One of our customer has Windchill 11.0 running production system. Also they have hard model object for "Part" created and they want to move to standard Softtype of WTPart. They have future plans to upgrade to 12.0/12.1 because of longer support windows.
We would like to know PTC views on :
1) Wether they should convert hard model to soft model before the upgrade or it will be easier to do in 12.x versions. (Source or Target)
2) What is the process to follow to convert Hard to SoftModel, are object references within Windchill systems will be also get updated? e.g. links to change objects, usage links.
3) Do you have any reference documentation to describe this step by step procedure.

Looks like there is a utility available only starting Windchill 12.0.2.0https://www.ptc.com/en/support/article/cs368420?language=en&posno=1&q=change%20part%20type&source=search

Hi @epadekar

What is the Hard model object and what is Standard SoftType?

I miss the meaning.

If you need to change type wt.part.WTPart to own subType as  wt.part.WTPart|MyOwnWTPart it is possible with SQL command.

It is tricky but it is doable.
