How to get started with Windchill 9 ? Can i customize it using its API's

Hello All,

I have just had a very preliminary lok into PDT and Windchill and i find it quite interesting. I am interested to know the details and prerequisites (help links ?) to get me started with Windchill 9.

So the first question is can i have a zip containing the Windchill 9 intstaller ? I have read the Software Matrix and see Tomcat figuring there. So can the Windchill environent be set up on Tomcat ? I am interested in knowing these details for Windchill 9.

Any hints or pointers to getting started with the windchill installation would be really great.

Also if i need to customize an installed setup of Windchill, can this be done using java programming and probably API's or frameworks used in Windchill ?

Yes, you can install WC from a zip. 9.1 uses the "solution installer." You'd run the setup file in the solution installer zip. This installer optionally references installers from other zips.

"How do I customize Windchill" is hard to answer. I think the first step would be to see if the OOTB product meets your needs.

Thanks for your reply. I searched around even more regarding PTC after i posted the query and now that you have mentioned the "solution installer" could you tell me how to obtain that. I have seen details of heavy and light licences so does it mean that the solution installer is not freely available and must be bought from PTC ? If so ,what would the cost for the same be ?
