Impact Matrix for Change Management

Hello Gurus,
I am curious how others are analyzing the impact of a change in their enterprise. What tools or methods do you use to gather and document the information? How do you format this information so that the business decision team can make sense of the change and the actual impact? What thresholds do you use to determine if a change should go through a full track (management approved) process?

We are in the process of re-evaluating our change management workflows and its apparent that this task needs a lot of attention. Any guidance you can provide is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your time,
Dax

We are also interested in how to use Windchill to capture impact questionnaires.

We have a bunch of Role specific questions that need to be connected with the Change Request and answered in parallel by the relevent users, within a workflow.

They are currently stored as Spreadsheets, but attaching these to the CP is clumsy and reporting from them would be impossible.

I imagine a set of CP Role specific attributes would do the job - anyone know how that can be acheived ?

Thanks

Ian

We have a similar need - have been struggling with how to address.

Long ago we had just Changes (simple paper forms). Some things "fell thru the cracks" (changed xxx and forgot about the impact on yyy). This resulted in the requirement to add a "Change Plan" up front (another paper form), which was a methodical way to go thru all things that might be affected by changing xxx and force discipline on that process. Next came the requirement to back-fill the fact that each of the other things was in fact addressed, especially if covered by multiple changes.

Today in Windchill all is electronic. We use a sub type of Problem Report for the "Change Plan" and then use the Change Request pretty much as supplied, tying them together one to one, one to many or many to one in some cases.

But - It's still redundant and complex - looking for a better, streamlined approach.
