I just ran into this issue..has nothing to do with laptops....more to do with Java and windows 7. Here is how to fix:
Go to Java Plug-in > Java Control Panel > Java > Java Runtime Environment > User
Add this line to Runtime Parameter field: -Dsun.java2d.d3d=false -Dsun.java2d.noddraw=true
Restart the Workflow Administrator
