Link to the visualization object of an EPM Document object in a Document object?

Hi All,

In our implementation, we have created a sub-type of a Document object and
use this to represent the "Control" number for the drawing object. (If I
describe the relationship badly, it's because I am not totally up to
speed). We are currently developing for the 10.0 platform.

With the move to Model Based Definition and away from drawing objects,
there is a desire to display the Visualization object of the appropriate
EPM Document object on the details page of the Document object. There may
also be a one to many relation ship, in the case of dash numbers.
According to the folks working the problem, PTC cannot describe a way to do
this. My question is: Is there a way to display the link to the
visualization object for a particular Version and Iteration of an EPM
Document (perhaps many) on a Document objects Details page?

Thanks,

Ben

I'm not sure why you are trying to achieve this using a WTDocument instead of a WTPart. A WTPart seems to be a better fit for the purpose you describe.
You can associate multiple EPMDocuments to a single WTPart, and the viewable will automatically appear for whichever one you designate with an "owner" link.
If you are selecting a WTDocument because you need to hold content, I would suggest still creating the WTPart and also associate it with the WTDocument.

Hi Ross,

Thanks for your reply!

I absolutely agree with your analysis. Unfortunately, my position is more
of a follower than a system designer in this case.

Hi David,

Publishing will be configured. The issue is that the published
visualization objects will show up in the EPMDocument and WTPart objects,
but not the WTDocument sub-type.

My question is whether the association/link to the WTDocument may be made
automatically.

Ben
