Mass update attributes in Solidworks files

Version: Windchill 12.0

Use Case: Interested in an approach/toolset that can support opening a Solidworks file from Windchill, interrogating an attribute value and if required check out the file, update the attribute, save and check-in.

Description:

We have a large number of Solidworks files in our production system (mostly Library parts) that sometimes have an erroneous attribute value that we would like to correct. Ideally we would like this done programmatically, curious if anyone has had any success with this sort of initiative and how they accomplished it.

The issue is these are not designated attributes, they only exist in the CAD file, updating the EPMDocument won't help.

After a bit of research, it seems we will have to use some of the CAD migration tools that are available to interrogate the Solidworks file to obtain the attribute value and update it, possibly as a two-stage process. We have been partnered with Fishbowl for a time on a number of data migrations, expect we will work with them on a solution for this. I will report back on here when I have something to share.
