What are the thoughts on placement of a master file when using multiple remote file servers (sites)?
My view has always been that all data should be mastered at the primary site.
This facilitates disaster recovery in several ways
- Only primary site hardware needs the highest level of redundancy/reliability.
- Single restoration, i.e. only the master site has to be restored and all other sites can be taken offline until they are rebuilt/restored.
What are the advantages of mastering data on remote file servers?
When have you or do you recomend mastering data on a remote file server and not the master site?
