Hello
Has anyone written an Oracle Script for Windchill to Populate the Name Field?
Scenario:
Database from Intralink 3.X Migrated 5 years ago, at that time script used to populate "Common Name" with Description; Management thought the Users were populating Name Field since but it was not always done... Description was filled out as it is on the Drawing Format.
Now Lite Users are coming into WIndchill. These lite users do not know File Name/Number and need to search on Description; For Example on "3/4 Bolt"; TheGlobal Search of Windchill only searches Name/Number;
We have Work-Around of an Advanced Search called Description for the SHort Term; And the Users will begin use of Common Name in ProE on Format to cover Future Designs... (CAD Users would have to Edit Name in Windchill after initial Upload);
BUT
Data between 2007 and 2012 inconsistent..
Does anyone have Script to populate Name Field with value of User-Defined Attribute "Description"?
Brian Sullivan
Thanks Mike
Understand the Concern about Name on Master;
Attribute is not OOTB Description but rather a User-Defined Attribute/Designate ProE Parameter (It is actually call “Part_Description”)
But Yes thanks>
Script would be Latest Version, Latest Iteration “Part Description” to Populate Master “Name” Field.

Hello.
Just a Follow-up to See if anyone has written an Oracle Script to Update the "Name" Field for epmDocuments with the latest values of an Attroibute such as "Part_Description"
I attached the Intralink3.X solution Provided by PTC tech Support which is used prior to Migrating data from Intralink 3.X to Windchill;I am looking for a similar script for Windchill that does basically the same thing.
What has Occurred;
Migration to WIndchill occurred a few years ago, and since Engineers have been very poor at populating Name Field with the Proper Value. Non-Engineering users now coming into Windchill. These users do not know the Number and rely on the results of the Global Keyword Search.
Management wants the Name Field populated with the "Part_Description" Field so that the Global KeyWord Search will locate the files; Engineers will now populate correctly; but we have a few years of spotty information. Likely will replace on Drawing Format Borders to force Engineering to use Name.
Solution 1: Is the Script to populate Name; Else an hourly worker could Rename for a month.
Solution 2: Can you change the Behavior of Keyword Search to search "Part Description" along with Number and Name....
I have set up Work-Arounds
A. Advanced Search with Attribute "Part_Description"
B. Saved that Search and made available to All Users
C. Created Table Displays that include "Part_Description"; which also then makes Table Filter Searches in 10.0 very easy...
But Management still wants Simpliest solution Upper-Right Search should be able to fine the Object Needed....
