Oracle Versions v Intralink/PDMLink Versions

Is there a matrix on the PTC website that shows the version of Oracle used by each version of Intralink and of PDMLink?

I think there almost certainly is, but I am unable to find it.

I am interested because I believe we would have to go through each version of Oracle in order to migrate from Ilink 3.4 to PDMLink 10.0. I would like to know how many versions that is.

Thanks,

John

There's no single matrix that gives the suppoted Oracle versions for every version of PDMLink and Intralink. There is a matrix for each different Windchill version that will give the supported Oracle version for that version.

The below article gives information about Oracle support in Windchill 10.x:

https://www.ptc.com/appserver/cs/view/solution.jsp?n=CS64396

And the below gives information about Oracle in Windchill 9.x:
https://www.ptc.com/appserver/cs/view/solution.jsp?n=CS16953

Note that both 9.1 M062+ and 10.x all support Oracle 11gR2.

Intralink 9.x and 10.x come bundled with Oracle. The version that each specific version of Intralink comes bundled with is shown in the Database section of the matrices linked from the above articles.

For Intralink 3.4/8.0, the below matrix shows what versions of the OSA (Oracle Software Assistant) are supported on which version of Intralink. And also what version of Oracle are supported by these OSA versions:

There is no need to 'upgrade' Oracle in steps. You have to install a fresh copy of the latest/supported release of Oracle as part of the new installation (on another server). Then use the data migration tools & process to copy the file vault contents and migrate the database content from Intralink v3.x to Windchill v10.0.

You should clone the current Intralink v3.x system first and use the cloned copy as the source for migration, as you will need to rehearse the migration process a few times before you can do it for real without getting stuck. We did 5.5 complete rehearsals (the last half one was repeated from a VMWare snapshot to confirm timings).

There is no option to upgrade in place on the same server, so you will need to get hold of another server or two..., so its far better if you can get your IT people to setup a VMWare host, as then you can have several test servers and the benefit of 'snapshots' to revert to earlier steps when it goes wrong. Hosting on VMWare is a certified & supported platform for Windchill, but do check the licensing for Oracle very carefully - you will probably end up deciding to put Oracle on a seperate physical server.
