Oracle licensing

Oracle licensing

We've always paid for Oracle on only the production Windchill system; now we're being told that all test installs will also have to be "counted" for licensing. We currently have 18 separate (all VM Ware instances) Windchill test installs - used for a wide variety of development and testing.

How do others handle this?

Our enterprise agreement with Oracle spells out our arrangement with
regard to dev/test vs production. It's never been an issue with us, at
least not yet...

Mike,

From our Oracle sale we got the response :
Oracle is free for development as long as only the developer is using the database...

It means that if only 1 user at a time is using the VM that's fine, but if it's not you will have to buy Oracle licences.

For all our staging systems, we had to buy licences. For basic staging system you can buy "Oracle Standard Edition One" licences that are cheap compare to the Enterprise one.

Cheers,
morgan

We have dedicated database servers that host the Oracle database
separately from the Windchill application servers. These servers host
databases for multiple systems, not just Windchill, and are licensed on a
per-cpu basis.
