PDMLink 9.1 Upgrade - Cleanup of Workspaces

Good Day All,

We are in the process of planning and testing an upgrade from 8.0 M045 to
9.1 M030. The PDMLink upgrade mentions that "all objects in workspaces
should be the checked in state". We are finding that this is going to be a
painful process for all our users.

I'm wondering if other companies have found this to be painful and how
they dealt with it. Can this be avoided? Any comments?

Thanks,

Jim

Hi Jim,

We faced similar challenges during our 8.0 M050 to 9.1 M020 upgrade. The way we handled this was to communicate with the user letting them know that there is a possibility that they will lose their data should they not check them in before the upgrade. We also ran the script in the check mode periodically, that identified all users who have objects in the workspaces and emailed those users on a regular basis. We gave them until 5PM to the day of the upgrade to have all items in their workspaces checked, other they will be deleted. This workout quite well. Unfortunately there is no other way to ensure this other than communication with your user community and making them aware of the consequences of not checking in data in their workspace.

Hi Jim,

We also faced the same challenge when we did the upgrade from 8.0 M050
to 9.0 M080. We followed exactly the same procedure that Alexius had
mentioned. We didn't have any other options for overcoming this
challenge.
