PDMLink Packages Export and Import

Good morning all,

I have in place PDMLink 9.1 and we are running well with it. We just upgraded from 9.0. I am now trying to learn all I can on working with Packages so I can create a training for my users here. The information I have been reading from all the manuals is very complex and wordy. Thereare no step by step demonstrations nor is there anything in my training manual when I took it way back when in version 9.0.I have a really nice overview Power Point covering Packages that PTC sent me the other day but it only covers how to create packages. Nothing on Exporting and Importing them.

Does anyone out there have a similar power point or document with step by step for Exporting and Importing data packages? Perhaps you had some training and there is a section in your manual you could share so I might learn the process.

Thank you in advance. Once I have learned these processes I will create a simple PP instruction step by step for the user community and I would be more then happy to share that with all you out there.

With the current release of Packages in R9.1, there is no automated import functionality. Think of the current functional footprint as a "work package" or "transmittal package." The Package provides a means for collecting documentation (both cad and supporting documents) and "wrapping" it with a digital transmittal form for sending to vendors, ODM's, etc. This provides a searchable (auditable) baseline of what you sent outside of the managed PDM system, etc. While there are plans to provide an import mechanism in a future release of Windchill, currently any updated Package data would need to be imported manually.

Hello Rex,

we have not yet migrated to 9.1 but are planning this year. I will be very interested in your progress. In the meanwhile. Would it be possible to share the document you mentioned in your post ?

Thank you

Hi Rex,

can you please share the documentation you have mentioned in your early post so I can also plan formigrating the data.

Sudheer,

If you want to migrate data into Windchill you probably want to look at
the loadFiles tool. Search for the word "loadFiles" and narrow the type of
documents returned to Reference Documents at PTC's support page.

The "Packages" feature Rex mentioned is AFAIK for exchanging data with
others with or without access to PDMLink.

/Jorn
