Passing Information(objects) within a workflow

I need to pass information from a soft type atribute into a workflow and then back out again. I am not sure on how this can be accomplished. Any advice would be greatly appreicated. I have tried using an expression bot but havent had much luck. I have tired the normalizedObject class but cant it to work.

What did you do and what exactly didn't work?

You can get information on some workflow step, then store information in workflow variable, and then write where it necessary.
