Hello,

Re hosting an application server while reusing the existing database can be a viable approach, but it comes with certain considerations and potential risks. Here are some insights and best practices to help you with this process: Can you reuse the existing database? Yes, you can reuse the existing database for rehosting. This approach can save time and resources since you won’t need to duplicate the database. However, it’s crucial to ensure that the new server environment is compatible with the existing database. also risks ensure that the new server’s operating system, database management system (DBMS), and application versions are compatible with the existing database schema and data.

Hope that helps.

Yes, you will able to use the same database. This document describes the process: https://www.ptc.com/support/-/media/support/refdocs/Windchill_PDMLink/11,-d-,1/WCRehostUtility.pdf?sc_lang=en&source=search

I have done this at Windchill 7. The server we had was so underpowered we had to reboot it twice a day to keep the method servers from choking. Put in a new 8 core processor system with 16GB of memory and copied the Windchill application over and reconnected it to the existing DB server. Rehost guide was worse than it is now back then but I got through it. Many of the changes in the Rehost guide were because of my complaints and working with the documentation group to make the changes.
