Removing a Soft Attribute

Windchill 10.0 M020

I mistakenly added a Global Attribute to my WTPart definition in my test system. When I tried to delete it the UI said that it is still used in 20 layouts so it couldn't be deleted. Ok, so I went and found the attribute in only 8 layouts using the Layouts tab and removed it but I still cannot delete the attribute. Has anyone else had this problem? How can I remove the attribute?

I found case 16435 which incoherently outlines steps to resolve this issue but it did not work for me. Therefore I opened a call with PTC and will post the solution...if they give me one.

The only method I have found is to delete the soft type and recreate it.

I doubt it changed for normal soft attributes. It has to do with items
being iterated. If you search the blaster on my previous posts, I discussed
the fix in 9.1 and earlier systems via SQL a couple years back.



I'd have to recreate your situation to confirm it changed, but if you did
remove all visible uses of it, it is likely the hidden implicit row stored
that is still not removed as part of protecting the iteration of the type
identifier.



If you cannot find the posting, I can verify if it is still relevant and
repost.
