Replacing an old hardware

Replacing an old hardware

I am in the process of updating my test Windchill 9.0 M070 installation to newer hardware. I plan to continue using the Oracle DB install, as the hardware is okay. I have two questions/problems:

1. During the installation process, I select using an existing DB with an existing user, but when I click on next, I get a "Validation Failed" window telling me I have to specify a user schema that's empty. If I create another user in my DB with an empty schema, will this cause be problems with I rehost from my production server?

2. PTC helped us install the original install.Thefirestorganization created was named "IBM MDA" . The space in the name caused problems so they/we created another organization "IBM-MDA" and hid the first one. My master plan is to install the new HW for the test server, rehost the production server to the test server, upgrade the test to 9.1 (the latest MXXX), do my testing and if all goes well to upgrade the production server. My question about this is when I install Window on the test server do I have to go through the same process, create "IBM MDA" first and then create "IBM-MDA" so the rehost will work?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dave

You cannot connect a new install to an existing database.

You should create a dump file of your oracle DB and matching LDAP and Vaults
and store in a safe place.

You can then drop the Oracle user and recreate that user and then install
Windchill.

Then you can import the backups of the Dump LDAP and Vaults.

BE Careful.

David,

I would recommend using a different user name, and then changing the
wt.pom.dbUser and wt.pom.dbPassword in site.xconf after then install back to
the original values once the installation is complete. Also, if you have a
different hostname on the new hardware, you'll have to go through some of
the rehost procedure steps to modify values in the database that reference
the old hostname.
