Roles in PDMLink

Windchill 9.1 M020

Ok, I'm lost and tech Support is "assisting other callers"

Can someone throw me a bone? Where do I go to setup a new role, or
review an existing role in PDMLink 9.1

I've reviewed the 824 page business admin guide which tells me I can
setup roles.

I've looked over the training manual I received when I took admin
training last March.

I see where it tells me I can setup roles, but for some reason, I can't
seem to figure out HOW

Just too blonde for my own good I guess!!

And assistance would be greatly appreciated. Clues, nudges,
suggestions...

Thanks!!

That's not it, I must be using the wrong nomenclature

We have Roles or Groups pre-defined, your access is determined by those
groups

For example, if you are a member of the Engr_MFG_QA role, you may
"Revise" a production object to Change Pending

If you are a member of any other Group/Role, you may not

I need to setup a new "Role" or "Group" that has the same access to CAD
data as the Engr_MFG_QA role, but cannot check-out (lock) and cannot
check-in changes.

I was shown the screen once, it has a long list of entries which can be
sorted by State, Role, permission, etc, etc. It is a java window, not
the regular GUI interface.

Michelle,

Use enumCustomize command on Windchill Shell.

Browse through codebase/wt directory

For roles: select project and Role.rbInfo file

After adding new roles... save them. (it will auto compile) and exit.

One the Windchill command again issue cd codebase to go to
Windchill\codebase

And type Ant -f MakeJar.xml to compile the jar files.

Restart Windchill server for these roles to take effect. (I normally
clear the tomcat cache when I do this)

Regards,
Rekha.

Roles and Groups in Windchill are 2 different things.

A Role is defined in a Team of a Product and Users and Groups can be
assigned to these Roles.

Access Control, permissions, or Policies can be written against a Role or a
Group in 9.1.

Roles are mainly utilized in Workflows and Groups are mainly utilized in
policies. I like the ability to write policies according to a Role of a
Product because it reduces the amount of policies.
