Summary Activity not completed

We created a project in Auto execution  mode. Then we import a project plan(.mpp) file in it.  It has few Phases (summary activities). All activities of a phase are completed (100% work complete and has  'Tick Mark' symbol) but for summary activity it still shows status as "unavailable"('Question Mark' symbol) and state as "In Process".

If project is created in manual mode then summary activity shows status as completed.

Prasad,

I tried reproducing this behavior in-house using the auto-execution, but it works successfully for me. Have you opened up a case with TS by chance to troubleshoot this further?

Hi,

Please try with the attached MPP file in Auto execution mode.

Hi,

We raised a PTC Case and we got the following reply from them: -

The important fact to be considered here is, user is trying to import a plan that has  few completed activities to an ‘Auto Execution’ project and this plan is in ‘Scheduled’ mode currently.

So there is a contradiction here that your ‘plan’ is not started however you have few activities that have been completed.

So, It is not supported to import partially completed plan from MSP to ProjectLink, as it will cause severe issues like described below:-

  1. 1.      Plan’s Actual Start date will be a date in the past, as there are few completed activities in the plan, before the plan is actually started in ProjectLink

  1. 2.      Once the plan is started, Actual Start & Finish date for completed activities will be changed (moved in future):

If at all customers need to import such plans in ProjectLink, below approaches could be followed:-

  1. 1.      Create a Manual execution project and import the plan.
  2. 2.      If you need this to be an ‘Auto Execution’ project that is not started yet, remove the completed activities in MSP and then import the plan to ProjectLink.

In Auto Execution, whenever you start or finish an activity, that time in the clock is considered as the Actual Start and Actual Finish of the activity and the subsequent successor activities are started at that time.

Even the duration of these activities are calculated accordingly. This is not the case with MSP. MSP simply copies the value of estimated dates to actual dates.
