When is an infoengine task recompiled or gets effective

Do I have to restart tomcat or methodserver ?

I changed the xml Files but it seems that the server still uses the old in memory classes even after deleting the java and class files for the task

The infoengine task itself is compiled immediately upon first use, but the
MethodServers and maybe Tomcat will need to be re-started before the new
class files will be used. I say maybe Tomcat because it depends on your
code.

Herbert,

You need to restart MethodServer, Tomcat and delete the Tomcat work directory. However most importantly you need to delete the compiledTask directory in <wt_home>/tasks/codebase/com/infoengine. This is where windchill caches all the compiled infoengine tasks, so if you changed any IE task you need to delete this cache so that it is recompiled and recached. Then the MS will use the updated version.
