Is it practical oneven possible to install the DS on a different server than the WIndchill server? If this is OK, pros and cons? Many thanks in advance!

This is what most larger companies use. Windchill is simply connected to Active Directory as its primary DS. More secure, easy to administrate for IT, password enforcement, same password as windows login, useful for single-sign on (10.1 I think) amongst other things.
