Workflows and Roles

Since the PTC Community hasn’t answered these questions, I’ll ask the exploder.

I am on Windchill/PDMLink 10.0 m040 with Creo 2.0 m100.

1)Under Organization preferences for Windchill, in the Promotion Process tab, there is a value for Default Promotion Processes. This is set to the custom promotion process that we use. Under the Change Management tab, there is no setting for Default Change Request Process, only Default Change Task Name. How do you specify a custom Change Request Process, Change Activity or Change Notice process? Does this mean that the only change management workflows that can be utilized are the default OOTB named ones?

2)I have added some Roles at the Organization Level. I have placed people in these roles at the Product and Library levels. Is there a way to place names to a role at the Organization level?

3)I now need to assign these roles to be participants in an Assigned Activity in a workflow. The added roles are not showing up in the list of Roles for selection. What do I need to do to make the roles available to a workflow?

3 REPLIES 3

1.) OIR and specify Lifecycle which uses the desired workflow or
customization that runs standard workflow and conditionally invokes a
different workflow as a subprocess.

2.) WTOrganization and the Organization container are created when you
establish an Organization. WTOrganization is a special WTGroup populated
when you define the organization of the user in the participant
administrator. That is all you get. From a container/context team and
roles, you can create team templates at the Organization level, add roles,
and add principals. They may then be used wherever, but you cannot use a
team template to seed a container team...that being said, the roles can be
seeded by defining container templates, but require you to create more
products, projects, and libraries.

3.) On a assigned activity, move past the initial tabs and go to the last
two tabs to define what roles and principals can be selected. Selected is
different from participating and receiving the initial activity where you
select them from.

1) Generally mapping to a workflow template is via the Lifecycle, but not for Promotion Requests. Promotion has different processes (workflow templates) available to allow for differences depending on selected target state.

For change objects, the workflow template is mapped via the lifecycle. Can specify different workflow templates for change objects by change object type and/or context.

2) Some Options:
- map users to Groups at Org level and map Groups to Roles at Product level
- map users to Team templates at Org or Product Level; specify the team template in the Change Object OIR

3) Roles created in the UI are not recognized by a workflow process. Have to create via enumcustomize and rebuild .jar files.
