save as with external dependencies

Windchill will not "save as" an assembly with external references.  In intralink this was possible which then allowed for modification of references later on. I have enabled windchill option "check for circular dependents" to "workspace only" with no luck.  The work around suggested in this forum is to suppress all but the components to be duplicated. In creo, do a save as.  You just resume the carry over suppressed objects to complete the task.

How can the desired windchill operation be accomplished?

Did you tried collecting dependents of the assembly in windchill save as window. I think if you collect dependents and save as them along with assembly then it works.
