very strange error: please check out instance & try again

WF3 m160, Intralink 3.4 m030

I'm experiencing a very strange problem that I've never had before. I have
a family table, numbering several dozens of instances. I need to make a
change to one, and so I check out the generic, and all of its instances, to
my workspace. I open the generic in pro/e, and make the change to the
table. Verify all. Everything so far is just fine.

However, when I attempt to save the generic, I get this error:

(if the picture doesn't come through: "torflex12 Please check out these
instance(s) and save again."

I've seen this error before, but here's the weird thing: torflex12 is the
generic I'm saving. It is definitely checked out! Any idea what's going on
here?

Thanks.

Hi Lyle,

Following are the views for the issue faced by you, not all may be
applicable to the issues that you are facing.

Whether "torflex12" was standalone part earlier & then it was converted to
generic.
As you can see in the window the symbol of "torflex12" is not shown as a
generic or instance symbol.

Also, even though "torflex12" is a generic for some instances, it can also
be instance of some generic, i guess that's the reason it is treating
"torflex12" as an instance ( as there is parent generic associated to this
instance or in the past there might have been parent generic associated to
this instance).

Regards,
Prashant

For a minute I thought you might be on to something - we have some family
tables around that used to be nested, but have since been broken apart into
standalone models. I thought this might be one of them. It is not.

I ran across this error again today, and remembered that I had hit it once before.

The resolution was to check the instance out to a new workspace, and re-did the work, and the problem disappeared. (the previous workspace was where I had checked out the entire top-level assembly).

Very strange.
