Entering design competitions
As you may know, PTC is sponsoring the Create the Future Design Contest 2010 - see this link for details: http://contest.techbriefs.com/
This contest was 'launched in 2002 by the publishers of NASA Tech Briefs magazine to help stimulate and reward engineering innovation'... and I personally think this is a great idea. Individual designers as well a small start-ups can enter their product ideas and win funding that may help them get closer to realizing their ideas.
And the number of entries each year speaks for itself - there are plenty of good ideas out there and people who are trying to make them public.
What I am quite curious about, is how do you guys find the time to work on ideas in your spare time, prepare a description and submit your stuff? Kudos to all of you who have ever participated in such a contest! And thank you for doing these things - without any extra effort, there would be little innovation, right?
If you have a great design ready or you are currently working on one, why not take a look at the contest rules, maybe you will be the one to make my life easier - From the perfect can opener to industrial filters reducing air pollution - I guess everything is possible.
Anyway, back to my question: Do you think the same about contests and have you made some experiences with any contests in the US or other countries?
