Pc spec upgrade for creo

Hi all,

 

Just started using creo 1, have spent last ten yrs+ on solidworks. Im upgrading my pc to a higher spec and looking for advice on what to do.

Current spec:

OS- windows 7 ultim. 64bit

Processor - intel core i7 4GHz

Main drive (programs) - 125 GB SSD

Storeage drive - sata 1TB

Graphics - ATI firepro V8800 fireGL

Ram - 6GB

 

When originally building it 2 yrs ago I put the money into the graphics card instead of RAM.

Now would I need more RAM for large assemblies or bigger SSD? or both?

Declan,

I think your PC configuration is strong enough. I am sure you will need more RAM for large assemblies. But you can add more RAM later to get for example 12 GB RAM.

Hi martin thanks, thats what i thought. But i installed creo yesterday, and had serious viewing problems. Whenever i would move the cursor or draw a line it would leave a mess on the screen, after a few hours I found a thread about configs and had to physically turn on the opengl! Now theres no mess but its so slow it not even funny considering how much the graphics card cost, has me quite annoyed, is there anything that would just set up the graphics cards correctly for creo itself?

Declan,

according to http://www.ptc.com/WCMS/files/138217/en/hp_creo2_p10.pdf, ATI FirePro V8800 card is supported for Creo Parametric 2.0. If you have graphics problems, you have to play with graphic card drivers. Try to install their current version.

      Hello

      We see that the best computers are not certified, is this normal?


      I tested our pc and I get a result of 2031, I am currently number 14.

      Hello,

      Yes it's normal, all certified computers or workstations have some months, i mean that the parts are not new and you can't control many things. In my computer i get a 4th or 5th place. And if you see the first places are from overclocked computers as mine .

      Anyone know why no one chooses the ati firepro cards? I bought the ati firpro v8800 firegl after been told it was pritty much the best i could get at the time, and now when i run creo its really slow and freezing non stop

      Finally got it all working,

      but im none the wiser as to what actually wasnt right.

      I uninstalled creo completely, uninstalled new GPU drivers and suite and reverted back to old ones (2010).

      Did a system defrag and c drive, rebooted and reinstalled new GPU driver and suite again. Reintalled creo, and set config to graphics - opengl (not the 32 one), aslo enabled opengl, and it works:), from what i can see anyway.iv no idea what was wrong. Id be very interested to see how it would do on a large assembly. To compare it against different GPU's like the nvidea quadro's etc

      Is there anywhere on the net where you can get a big assembly to test it?

      Also thanks to all who gave me suggestions throughout!

      Test with a benchmark now and comprare with other graphic cards with same cpu

      Ok iv downloaded the spec and ocus benchmarks, and cannot start either, please say there is a way of running these without the crazy instructions given in the read me's?
