Numeric vs. Symbolic Representations in PTC Mathcad

By Mathcad Staff

This worksheet using PTC Mathcad Prime 2.0 shows you how to use an in-place evaluation of numeric definitions and a symbolic evaluation of results in functions. In PTC Mathcad, using the in-place evaluation of numeric definitions, you can combine numeric definitions and evaluations into one statement. This provides you with a more compact format for evaluating a definition and allows you to bind the variable to the result of the definition.

Some symbolic functions like regress or var can't be evaluated symbolically but in PTC Mathcad you can bind the numeric result of var to the variable, which in turn gives you a more meaningful result. You can also insert an intermediate value in an explicit result. This Mathcad provides you with two examples of:

  • In-place Evaluation of Numeric Definitions
  • Symbolic Evaluation of Results of Functions

All notation, data, symbolic evaluations, and numeric results are provided to aid you in your own calculations.

Download and explore this worksheet yourself! You can download a free lifetime copy of PTC Mathcad Express and get 30 days of full functionality.
