Assembly: Best type of conversion without showing internals

I need to give one of our customers an assembly, but I would prefer not
to show the internals. What "TYPE" would be best for this type of
translation?

Note: the customer uses Solidworks.

Thanks!

Hi Art,

One suggestion is to export a STEP file of your assembly. Import that STEP into a new assembly and delete the parts you don't want them to see. Export that file as a new STEP fileand you are done.

If the assembly is not too large, I'll usually make a dummy component in
the assembly, seed and bound the surfaces of the key components as
features in the dummy part. Then solidify all of the seed and bound
surfaces and STEP out the dummy model.

I really only takes a few minutes and gives the customer an envelope that
they cannot distinguish between components or see internals.

Sort of like a do-it-yourself shrinkwrap, but with a lot more control over
the results.

In the past I have created a Shrinkwrap to create a part file of just the external features, then export that to a STEP for sharing with other CAD programs.

Using a shrinkwrap, You can add an 'obfuscator' part to the assembly, which fills the interior and closes unwanted openings. It can be permanently added to the assembly and be suppressed when not used.
