Attaching a note to patterned components

In WF3, I have a pattern of components, and the number of instances in the
pattern is configurable by the end user (can even be zero). I would like to
attach a note to each instance of the pattern, and have it parametrically
update the attachments as the number of instances changes, so that it always
has a leader pointing to each instance of the pattern. Is this possible?

(At this point I'm using annotation features in the model, and just showing
them on the drawing, because it's easier to suppress them off if the number
of instances is zero, but I can switch to drawing-only notes if I have to)
