Creo 8: Well, ain't this peachy. Got a large assembly in a couple different configurations/Reps (some parts not used in certain Reps), and if you create the dwg view using a Rep, but then change the Rep at the assy level, the BOM will change but the dwg view WILL NOT. Replacing the Rep for that view, or everything else I tried, DO NOT WORK. The only thing that worked was DELETING the view, and putting a new General view in it's place. Nice, especially since it's a large assy with a bunch of sheets. So, my "Pro/WORKAROUND" is to NOT make dwg views until you are 100% sure the Reps won't change.
Must be all that "Enhanced Functionality" PTC keeps crowing about when they waste time giving us confusing new interfaces, but spend zero time fixing bugs...you know, like that "split cylinder" BUG, or the one where threads don't show up in the model except in wireframe viewing mode, or.......
Anyone else run into this issue?
I haven't ever had trouble with a rep updating on a drawing view. I don't typically use on drawing BOMs for my "large assemblies" because we don't have a one to one creo model to bom so they don't really work for me.
You know all these things I'm going to list, I know it's not your first rodeo:
Don't forget to save your rep when you change it in the model...I've made that mistake too many times.
Double check that rep changed is the correct rep for the view...I've made that mistake too many times.
Make sure you are regening the drawing, I have mine set NOT to regen the drawing automatically, so I have to do it manually. you may have that setting also
There are probably more of the simple reasons that I can't think of right off hand.
Hey Steve!
Unfortunately, none of that works. This appears to be a known issue in looking at it, I found post online about it. I even found where PTC listed it as something they weren't going to fix. I'd hoped it would have been fixed in Creo 8 instead of just "Bold New Graphics!"....but, no...
Maybe it'll be fixed when we go to Creo 10? Oh, wait....
I'm on Creo 8 now and on a large assy drawing currently. I can test on mine.
Specifically, it's a drawing view with a Rep and a BOM table specifically for that rep. And you are changing components in the rep on the assy.
Its not updating the views but updating the BOM. Is that the idea or am I missing something?
It'll probably be tomorrow morning and I can give it a whirl
For some reason, the BOM updates, just not the view. I added a part to the Rep as a test, and while it would highlight when I hovered over it in the model tree, it flat refuses to show in the view. I tried everything I could think of (replacing the Rep with the Master Rep, changing to another All state, using another viewing angle, changing the view from shaded to wireframe etc, etc.), nothing worked except deleting it. And from the posts/articles I found, it's a known (also to PTC) issue. I'm doing something a little tricky with some of the OTHER parts further up in the model tree, but these ones causing the issue in this particular view are super simple parts I made and put at the bottom of the 'tree just to test what I was seeing. Also, before I put these 2 parts at the bottom, the parts further up the tree cause the same issue when I added another one of them.
No hurry, and no worries, I'm curious if others are also seeing this. On a really big assy you might not even notice, but I was testing a small Simp Rep of it and since there was only about 8 parts, it was really obvious.
Thanks!
I'm not having any problems getting the views to update. Creo 8.0.10.0
I added BOM to that view/model/rep, just to see if it made a difference but didn't seem too.
Multiple sheets, Some with different reps on the same sheet. Everything seemed to work normally...slow regen, but nothing abnormal for my assemblies.
For my specific drawing issue, I was cleaning up internal components I don't need on a drawing that is distributed to the customer.
I adjusted reps in sub-levels and top levels to see if either one made any difference to the update, but they all just worked fine.
These are the steps I did, maybe your steps are different.
1. Created assy
2. Added initial parts
3. Created Simp Rep
4. Created dwg and view using Simp Rep
5. Added parts to Simp Rep
6. Dwg view did not update.
Now, we're on 8.0.5.0, so, maybe that's the issue, but I doubt it. Like I said, I found other posts about this issue, this is just one.

Also, I just created a new dwg using this Simp Rep, and the view doesn't even show up at all! Nice...
My drawing is an existing assembly, it had "stuff" in the sub-assy's that had changed and the top level rep needed to be updated. Along with those "maintenance" things, my specific task was to add/remove some customer equipment. This additional equipment needed to be shown appropriately on the drawing, so reps needed to be checked/verified for those.
My steps were different but similar:
1. Open existing assy
2. add/remove parts/assemblies
3 update existing reps for new components
4. update existing reps for changed components that no longer displayed correctly
5. update existing drawing
Outside of that, I'm trying to get all the datums turned off, for some reason, I've got one sheet that is giving me the finger and refusing to erase datums, they won't turn off with layers, can't select them...uggghhhh...but these are issues for me.
Man, the only thing consistent....is the inconsistency....
Creo 12 should be nothing more than a long list of BUG fixes. No "Bold New Graphics!" or any of that slop. THAT, would actually be "enhancements"!
I think for me, I'll have to o something else than try and rely on the Simp Reps to actually work for me. Sux, because I've already got a lot of time invested in it...
Ah well, thanks for looking at it!
Vindication! This IS a bug! We'll see if the settings fix it...
