Back up

What is the quickest way to back a model up which automatically includes
all of the drawings as well?

I'm sure you can do it but for the life of me can't seam to get it to
work!!

Only if the models and assemblies have the same exact file name as the
drawings they are referenced in, you can do a 'save a copy' and this
will be taken care of. In the case of assemblies, you will get a dialog
in whether you want to reuse components or rename as well, and the above
rules also apply.

Wouldn't "back up" in the File menu work for this?

A "File, Backup" will take the currently active file, and any required dependencies. If the currently active item is a drawing, it will take any parts or assemblies referenced in the drawing. Doing a "File, Backup" on the top level assembly drawing will bring that drawing, the assembly, and all components in the assembly. It will NOT bring all the drawings for the individual details since these are not required to open the top level assembly or it's drawing. You will need to do a "File, Backup" for each drawing. This is where a PDM system really shines. You simply select everything you need exported, and let it do the work.
