Brain Fart

I have a part that someone else designed and It has draft angles etc. Basically I want to do is copy the highlighted surfaces to a new part so I can convert it to a solid part .

Is there an easy method without creating an assembly and use the data sharing feature?

One method is to use an external copy geom feature. In Creo Parametric 2.0 this is Model Tab | Copy
Geometry (from the "Get Data" group)

I should've mentioned that I am on Creo/Element AKA WF5

The same functionality is there. Insert, Shared Data, Copy Geometry. Open the reference model (the one in the picture below), determine where to place it (default is probably fine), and then choose the surface(s) you want to copy.

I was hoping not have to create an blank assembly to do so. Here's what I did:
* Create a blank assembly
* assembly the reference component
* create the new part by using INSERT -> COMPONENT -> CREATE
* Activate the new component and select INSERT -> DATA SHARING -> COPY GEOM -> Select the surfaces

With external copy geom you don't create an assembly. You do this:

* Create a blank part (using your start part)
* Insert | Shared Data | Copy Geometry (per Tom below)

If you have AAX (Advanced Assembly Extension) you can, in the *parent* part
- at the end of the model tree (recommend highly to perform at end of model
tree):

1. create a surface copy feature of the surfaces you want
2. then create a "publish geom" feature selecting all quilt created in the
parent part

In the *"target"* part:

1. create a copy geom feature - selecting the parent part and its publish
geom feature created above as its source

If needed you can super-position the geom via CSYS mating

keep in mind you need AAX extension to perform some COPY/ Publish geom
features. If the features appear "grayed out" most likely you do not have
the extension.

You don't have to have an assembly at all (assuming you have the advanced assembly license). You simply insert the copy geometry feature right in the empty part and reference the other part. No assembly required.

For those following along, if one doesn't have AAX this can only be done using an assembly. If I Remember Correctly, of course.
