Bug in data transfer between excel to family table.

I have been Using the edit using excel option in Family tables for quite some time. I used it to bulid a Complete assembly configurator with more than 60 parameter values. but my biggest worry is, once in a while the values from excel wont update in the family table. It’s like on again off again affair. Sometimes it works smooth as butter and sometimes like a nose-dive into the drains. Please let me know if there is any bug in data transfer between excel to family table.

I have seen this happen a few times, but after investigating, I found the cause to be in the data input (my error). This happens if you mistakenly enter an illegal character in a cell and to not correct it (e.g. "u" rather than "y" in a yes/no parameter). The worst is if the illegal character is entered into the instance name (e.g. entering a decimal point "." into the instance name will completely wipe out the entire table). Rodney

thanks for the quick reply Rodney, I have been through this situation. I have built a back end macro in excel to make sure that all characters that I enter in Excel are Valid ProE characters only. and each and every value that I enter goes through a check. And in some cases the values are just whole numbers with no decimals or fractions. but still I am ending up with the same issue.

This will also occur if, for some reason, your columns are not in exactly the same order in Excel as in your family table. if you add, remove or reposition any data, the family table will not populate. Don't know if that is what's happening to you, but that is one thing that will cause this error. Good luck Chris

The Excel file was directly derived from the Family table toolbox. If there was any change in the column order ProE will not at all recognize the Excel file. but in my case ProE Clearly recognizes the Excel file. Hence It rules out the posibility of messed up columns. Please help With regards Vivek K M

I avoid using Excel to edit family tables like the plague. I've seen it seriously scramble the table. I may create the table in Excel, then simply cut and past into the family table, but that's it. I'd avoid it.
