Cables not displayed in STEP files

Creating STEP files from WF4 but cables are not being displayed. I have tried a some different options but to no avail.

Does anybody have settings that make the cables display in the STEP file?

Is this something that is better in Creo?

There is a check box on the export STEP pop-up settings "Export cable surfaces"

That is one of the options I have tried but I still don't get cables displayed when I re-import the STEP file.

I also tried IGES but still no joy. Also looked at config options but couldn't find any relevant settings.

Ah! I found this:

There is an export option, to export cable surfaces.

However, it works correctly only since Creo Elements/Pro 5.0

For Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire a workaround was required, as the cable surfaces were only exported with the surface option and not with the solid option.

The workaround required setting config.pro option step_export_format ap214_cd and exporting in two steps (solid for models and surface for the cables).

See article CS66555 : Export of thick cables does not work for for interfaces such like IGES, STEP, CATIA V4 (.model), ACIS, Parasolid, UG in Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 4.0

Sounds a bit of a faff so for what I need to do it may be better to lay points down and sweep a protrusion along a datum curve.
