Can I create a checkered appearance using the appearance gallery?

Does anyone know if i am able to create a checkered color pattern using colors i already have in my appearance gallery? The reason being is we color code our jobs for specific functions and sometimes there are areas that require two operations and the surfaces that require those operations i would like to put a checkered color pattern of the two colors that correspond to the functions. If anyone has any suggestions that would be great.

You can do a texture using any number of programs to make a small image file of the colors you want. The simplest way is to have an image of the colors your want, in the pattern you want and take a screen print and crop it using Microsoft Paint. Now save that image. Next, open the appearance manager and create a new appearance. Then edit the appearance end go to "Maps" and click on the square Decal button. This will open the file explorer so you can navigate to the image you just created.

Close the manager and apply the appearance to a surface. Next, in the Appearance Gallery drop-down, you have the option to edit the model appearance. Use the eye-dropper to pick the surface you applied the appearance on. Now you can edit how the "texture", the decal is applied by changing the scale, the repeat, the application type, etc.
