Circular symetry constraint problem

Dear all

I have creat a simulation on Wildfire 4 using a circular symetry constraint to save time

When I look the results , I see that the piston is turning arround the axis , for me this is not correct because with circulare symetry constraint the parts a lock in rotation

I you have an idea about my mistake it will be great

I check in the PTC help center , but I don't find anything to confirme it

Do you have any information confirm this ?

Hi Olivier,

I don't think that a rotational symmetry constraint prevents rotation.

It simply constrains nodes on each surface to rotate by the same amount. Otherwise, it would overconstrain the part and prevent it from deforming in some directions.

Like you say, you can use a cylindrical coordinate system to apply rotation constraints (lock Theta direction). Or you could constrain a point on your model from moving in a direction normal to one of the symmetry planes - you could do this in Cartesian coordinates too.
