Difficulty in selecting sketch entities in Creo
I'm working in Creo Parametric version 11.0.1.0.
When in sketch mode and selecting entities for adding dimensions, I hover over the entity until it highlights, but when I click the entity often does not get selected. I thought there might be a config parameter that affects the sensitivity of sketch entity selection, but I wasn't able to identify one.

Can you check your computer's scaling setting? I've seen this issue occur when your scaling factor is set to something other than 100%. You can access the scaling settings by right clicking on your desktop and choosing Display Settings. Set it to 100% and try again.

Thanks for your reply. This setting was already at 100% for my monitors.

Could be a graphics issue. In 7.0 and Creo+ (running Creo12.0) I get instant highlighting and selection.
Is it the same with the display set to wireframe?
You could also try setting config graphics to win32_gdi to disable the video card. If this helps, you may need to use an updated driver (the latest is not always the best).
There is always more to learn in Creo.

Setting the display to wireframe did not change this behavior.
How do you set config graphics to win32_gdi?

In your default work directory, there should be a file named config.pro. Open it in a text editor and add the line graphics win32_gdi

I tried adding this parameter as you suggested. It definitely had a noticeable affect on the graphics, but not on the original problem.

If that option had solved your problem, it would have meant your issue is specifically a graphics card issue.
Since it didn't, your problem is elsewhere.
Make sure you remove the option, it will destroy your overall system performance.

Yes, I noticed! The option has been removed.

It may be a graphics issue, however, it started with Creo 11.... From Creo 10 down selection was instant and quick. I have also noticed severe lagging when choosing the annotation tab in the menu and when typing in any text box or parameter box. I am a very slow typist and Creo cant keep up with me. All other windows functions and installed programs function just fine...
I did hear that Windows 11 update changed their system font that has caused similar issues with Adobe. Has anyone heard of similar issues with CREO?

There is an option in the config.pro called :
pick_aperture_radius
If this is set in any of your configs, it may make select more difficult. But honestly, I suspect it is either of the other response, graphics card or scaling.

Thanks for your reply. This option was not already set, and setting it to its default of 7 did not seem to make things any better or worse.

What is the selection filter set to when you are having difficulty in sketch mode? It should be set to "all sketcher" but it is possible that it may not be.

This problem typically happens when trying to apply dimensions or reference dimensions, at which point the selection filter is set to "All."

Is this in a large assembly? I know that once my assemblies get to a good size, selection begins to get worse. Most prominently in large assembly drawings, but in modeling also. Even worse when surface models are involved.

No, this happens in sketch mode when modelling parts - even simple parts. I've seen what you're referring to as well, but that usually appears as a lag in highlighting or selecting entities. What I'm experiencing is no lag in highlighting but failure to select. I should also emphasize that this is an intermittent and so far unpredictable problem.

Yes, agreed. Lag is correct for large assy's.
Intermittent and unpredictable is horrible. Hard to figure out what the issue is.

I am experiencing the same problem with Creo 11.0.2.0, I am also using Creo 9.0 without this issue.

I have the same problem. It appeared instantly after switching to Creo 11. We were previously using Creo 4 without issue. I think there's a problem with Creo 11. We submitted the case to support and they told us it was a driver or hardware issue as we're not using certified hardware !
It's really annoying, I thing we now have to click approximately 30% more to do the same job. And that's a lot of time wasted.
Here's another with the exact same problem : https://community.ptc.com/t5/3D-Part-Assembly-Design/Creo-11-Selection-Issues/m-p/982605#M137268

Well, at least I'm not alone! Thanks for pointing to the other thread where users are having this same problem.
What non-certified hardware are you using? I'm pretty sure the graphics card I'm using is certified as I'm using an NVIDIA card on an HP laptop.

Hi,
HP Z1 G9 Tower Desktop contains integrated Intel® UHD 770 graphics, so I suggest you to:
- disable NVidia RTX 3070
- plug in the monitor into Intel® UHD 770 connector
- test Creo 11
If Creo works properly then the problem is probably related to NVidia RTX 3070 somehow.
Also you can test following setting:
- NVidia RTX 3070 enabled
- Intel® UHD 770 disabled

Hi,
Thanks for your test ideas.
I made these tests and I didn't notice anything different. The behavior is the same with the two graphics cards.

Sorry to hear. Someone had mentioned for you to look at your drivers. If you haven't yet, in conjunction with your graphics cards then maybe you should look into the driver(s). Again, no expert here, just info that solved other similar issues in the past. Good luck!

I don't know if this will be of any help to others out there, but we were all having the same issue here and have found a solution that works for us. I was trying to install version 11.0.3.0 when I kept getting errors about the license server being incompatible. Installed the newest license server from PTC and almost all of the issues disappeared. Creo is fast and smooth again. Selection of edges and surfaces is back to normal.

We aren't having any issues with the license server, and as far as I know I'm the only one in the office having this issue.
