Disappearing Exploded View Lines

Disappearing Exploded View Lines

Hello, I wanted to see if anyone else has dealt with this issue before. The exploded-lines that I create for my exploded drawing views are constantly disappearing or should I say, getting deleted. I have no clue why this is happening. I'm very meticulous with saving my views along with my drawing files too. Yet often when I close the file and open it back up again, the lines are gone and nowhere to be found in the model tree. This is beyond frustrating. I just wanted to ask if anyone else has these issues too.

I do not, but failing to save the layer status should only affect whether they are hidden or not, it should not affect what is contained on each layer.

Are you certain that you are saving the explode states when you create/modify them? Saving the view will not save the explode state.

When I create and/or modify my exploded views, I always save that specific view within the Exploded section of View Manager. I'm not sure of any other way to save the exploded view. I've also checked the layering just in case it was affecting the view but I didn't find anything related.

Not sure how you are doing it, but: if you have that (+) sign after the name of your exploded state... well, just know that means there are changes to it that will NOT be saved to disk upon file-save.

After editing the exploded state, the next step is typically:

I wonder how many people-years have been collectively wasted in meticulous preparation of exploded views, only to forget this vital step.  I know there are several hours of my life I will never get back 😅

But you mention that you save the view; when doing so, are you getting a dialog box like this? :

That should make that (+) disappear, so then I'm not sure why your explode lines would be disappearing.

Yes, I do get the "+" sign when I make changes to the exploded view as you've shown. I do make sure the "+" disappears when saving the view, although I've been guilty of not doing this also. I just recreated the exploded lines again, so I'll keep an eye out for the next time it happens.

Prior to Wildfire 3 when you made an explode it was automatically saved. When PTC introduced combo states they added a step where you needed to manually save the explode. I created an idea for an auto save but it was archived due to not enough votes:

Hitting 'Save' in the model should save everything.  Now that doesn't mean the model should necessarily open in the last displayed configuration, but it should be possible to turn on display (layers, explode state etc.) and get back to exactly where you were when the model was last saved.  If data is actually being lost (explode lines, etc.), then in my opinion there is a fundamental problem with how 'save' is working.  You should never lose data by failing to save in two different areas of the software.

Yeah, I agree.  To this end, do you know if there is a setting which will cause the layer status to be saved at the time of file-save operation?

I do not, but failing to save the layer status should only affect whether they are hidden or not, it should not affect what is contained on each layer.

Triggered! Not sure if we are experiencing the "same" phenomenon, (I am using 8.0.5.0) I have experienced this issue for past versions of Creo also:

While creating the exploded state and creating the explode lines the ENTIRE set of explode lines associated with a single explode condition simply vanish. From the model entirely. DURING the creation phase, This is not a "forgot to save condition" issue. It is a bug in Creo and frustrating beyond belief, after creating dozens of explode lines I have to go back and re-create them all. This includes all explode lines which were existing prior to my manipulating the explode condition.

Open the explode to edit some portion and ALL explode lines absolutely disappear from the model. I know it has something to do with working in areas outside of the view mangler while in the view mangler modifying explode conditions. I think Creo just gets confused and chucks it all, too much math for it apparently.

Hope someone out there can shed some light on this. Now, back to re-creating 30 or so explode lines.

🙂

Joepaul88, I have the same issue using Creo 7.0.4.0. The offset lines (explode lines) show in the model tree, but I cannot get them to display after a restart of Creo. Sometime they will disappear for no reason I can see during creation of more offset lines.
