Disappearing parts-solution

Problem solved, at least for this part.

1. Download part from internet as a STEP file.
2. Rename the imported file to a proe legal filename (proe won't even
see it if it's an illegal proe filename)
3. Open a part that already has default datums in it (in this case the
part that came in with the emn file).
4. Delete the block that the emp file generated.
5. Insert>shared data>from file, browse to step file.
6. Accept default csys.
7. Part imports properly with datums where I want them.

I can section this, delete it and reimport it, and it behaves correctly.

My responses to suggestions that were offered is below.

Try enabling the "intf_in_use_template_models" to yes in your config.pro
file. I think this is the option so that imports use your standard start
part. This way the planes are already there as well as all your
parameters (provided they're there in your start part already). You
should also set the "template_solidpart" option to point to your
standard start part.
This may solve your issue.
I don't have much control over the config.pro file, so I normally don't
mess with this. I may in the future.

Ken,
I'd recommend STEP files for import into Pro/E. They seem to have the
least amount of issues. IGES files are frequently surface models which
may or may not be "water-tite". Surfaces that don't close completely
can't be solidified.

STEP files seem to work a lot better. I originally imported the parts
as "proe part/assembly" and that was a mistake.

Can you provide the link to the model you are downloading?
What version and datecode of Pro/E?

times too count. Removing "color" layers will normally eliminate the
problem. HTH.

No. They are not native proe. I haven't messed with color layers, but
there weren't any color layers in this part. Not that I could tell,
anyway.

The only suggestion i have is to try importing the file into a newly
