This is another issue that has plagued me for a while. I'm running an analysis using shell elements with a weld feature connecting the two components. Often, when I review the stress results, the fringe plot has large differences between the weld shell elements and the component shell elements. My expectation is that the stress would flow evenly between the weld shells and if the component shell elements are red, the weld shells would also be red. Can anyone explain why I see this?
