Exporting Curves

Exporting Curves

Gurus,

Has anyone figured out how to export curves with a solid? I need to show some curves (text) on an exported solid from ProE. I have looked at doing it as a solid but that is not an option because of how many parts will need this and the size and regeneration speed of the files.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Just use Iges Click check box.

Michael,

There are many times that I need to send out an iges file of my designs for
cosmetic surface "approval" from the ID house, or Client who may not have
Pro/E. In this case, I want to send the master surface shape, with a few
projected curves on surface for visual reference, however, (in my models
that can be upwords of several hundred features) I don't want to check the
default "datum curves and points" button because that will include All
construction curves and points from my model and creates a visual mess for
the receiver of the files. So, Here is the method I use.

1) export your solid (or surface) model as you normally would.
2) set the curve features that you want to include to a specific layer.
(important note: make sure that these features are the only thing on that
layer, and that these features are removed from all other layers)
3) export these specific curves using the following method:
a) check the "datum curves and points" box
b) un-check all other boxes
c) Select the "customize layers" button
d) in the "Choose Layers" box, the one layer you want should be set
to "show", all others should be set to "skip"
e) OK, and OK. (export of curves should now be complete)
4) open a new part. Import your solid (or surface) model, then import
your curve model.
(you now have a stand alone model that shows everything you need,
and nothing you don't)
5) Export this new model selecting the "Solids" box, and the "datum
curves and points" box. and your ready to send the file.

This method is a lot of extra work, but it gets the job done for me.
While I'm on the subject... I'll also say that it would be nice if PTC
would add some functionality to this "Export" pop up allowing us to select
individual curve "entities" to include in the export. (Similar to the way
it allows us to select specific "quilts", or similar to the way the
"External Copy Geom" feature allows us to select specific "entities")

Good Luck

This seems like a really complicated process. Setting the config option "intf_out_blanked_entities" to "no" will only allow what is visible to be exported. If you only see the solid geometry and a few select curves on the screen, then these are the only items that will be in the exported file (assuming you checked the "datum curves and points" box during export). One caveat here. Datum display (points, planes, axis, and coordinate systems) is not the same as hiding something in the model tree or on a layer. Datum display status will NOT affect what goes into the export file. Only what is shown/hidden in the model tree, shown/hidden by layers, or included/excluded by rep.

Tom,

Well there is a config option that I wasn't aware of... This will
certainly make life a little easier.
That's what I really enjoy about this group. It doesn't matter how much
time I've got on Pro/E, every once in a while I learn something new.

Cheers!
Bernie
