Extrude feature won't update when moving the referenced Csys

Hi there,

As subject mentions, I have an extrude feature that references a Csys I created (CS3). However, when I move the CS3 around, the two revolves (that reference the CS3) update, but the extrude does not.

Any ideas what could be causing this?

Thanks,

Hi all,

I found the solution - the problem was my Reference plane for Sketch Orientation was an embedded feature within the Extrude feature. When I changed this, the extrude began to update properly.

The reference scheme used by the extrude feature do not support your design intent. You need to reroute or redefine the references for the extrude feature such that it will follow the csys.

Query the feature references to look for possible causes (see pic below).

It could also be the sketch constraints causing the issue. From the video I would bet on the extrude sketch constraints/references causing the problem.

Below are all of the references/sketch setups. I see no issues, as it only references CS3 and DTM85 (the plane that references CS3, and is slightly rotated about one of CS3's axes). The right plane it's referencing is the sketch plane itself.

I should also mention that I have previously defined references such that the ONLY references are: 1. the Csys of interest 2. a plane that references the Csys. The constrains in the sketcher only reference the Csys & plane, as well.

What is the 4th feature in the list - PA61111 ?

It's a body, the part gets split into two parts later in the design tree.

In both the 2nd and 3rd picture, There is a Right:F1(Datum Plane).

Is this in reference to CS3? or the Right plane of the assembly?

The Right plane is the right plane of the default Csys.

It is quite convoluted and difficult to interpret what is going on from images only. To increase a chance of a solution, post the model and provide the Creo version you are using.  If you are not able to post the model, create a test part and copy/paste the problem features into the test part and post that.

That is weird.  The screenshot and video describe your problem - but do not completely describe how the extrude is defined.  Specifically, how is DTM85 defined?

Also, is it a blind depth extrude, or does it go to some surface?

Hi,

I apologize, the Windows 11 video recorder built-in doesn't seem to switch windows when I am recording. The screenshots in my other reply should cover everything about how the extrude is defined, (sketch plane, references, constraints).

It is a through all extrude.

Below is the definition of DTM85, and the axis DTM85 depends on (A_347).

good work.  though strange that this feature wasn't shown on the "edit-references" list...  Or it was that you were using some surface / edge of the PA61111 body to orient the sketch?

This discussion is a good demonstration of how in Creo, you have to be pretty fastidious about keeping the references-list tidy.

I apologize for the confusion I caused - the screenshots at various different times may not be consistent because I tried changing things to fix the problem.

DTM85 is the embedded feature that was causing an issue, not CS3_TOP.

Originally, DTM85 was the Reference for Sketch Orientation which was ultimately the problem.

Hey! It's a learning process for all of us. Good job finding the issue.
