How to bend a cup? help

Folks

CUP1.PNG

cup.PNGCUP2.PNG

I need to bend the open end of the cup. I could bend walls in sheetmetal but when asked to convert this cup, for the driving surface; it fails whenever i pick either the front end or the cylinder surface. Also, is it possible to bend the cup at the final assembly using the dimensions in the attached picture (28.5 & dia 45.4)

thanks so much

First thing to understand about Sheetmetal is that it assumes constant thickness and other than forms, you physically have to be able to flatten your part. Which you can not do with your cup.

So, don't bother with sheetmetal, instead just do a sweep around the edge to create your flange.

How would i capture the two dimensions on the assembly? can spinal bends work in assy?

This is a good case for faily tables. One for the drawing (unbent) and one for the assemblies (bent).

The feature you want is a flange, but as far as unfolding, stampings do not carry the right information to do accurate unfolding. This is the same as not accounting for thinning with die forms. these are all approximations. Only true sheetmetal bends can be managed with the appropriate K-factor (stretch and crush).

I agree with Dan on this one that sheetmetal really is not going to provide any significant advantage with this task.
