How to export a part as STEP file with cosmetic sketches visible?

I've created a part model with lettering as a cosmetic sketch, and have been trying to export this part as a STEP file. However, whenever I open the step file, the lettering is completely missing. How can I ensure the cosmetic sketch lettering is visible on the exported STEP file?

Creo Parametric v7.0.4.0

If the datum option in the export filter is not active, try turning that on and report back. I would also use the ap214_is protocol as shown below.

Hi, I don't seem to have that menu when I have been saving as a STEP file. I have been saving the file as a copy with the file extension set to .stp, is there some other way I should be exporting to get these options?

File->Save as -> Save a copy

This method did not work for me, I followed all of these steps but the STEP files generated do not visibly contain the cosmetic sketches. What might I be doing wrong here?

I don't have enough info to root cause the problem. Are you able to post your model or a test case model here?

Maybe it's the type of STEP you are outputting? I believe ap242 has a pretty comprehensive set of output data types it supports. You could try the different types and see if that's your problem.

Checking Datums works well for me when exporting as STEP for all curve types.

Maybe your issue is with your import settings.

There is always more to learn in Creo.

Don't use cosmetic sketches, they're total garbage for a number of reasons.  Use a datum curve instead, and that should output if you have the "Datums" checked.

Okay, that is useful for future reference, but I have already used a cosmetic sketch here. Is there any way to get this to display on a STEP file?

I can confirm that it is possible to export a cosmetic sketch to a STEP file from within Creo. I have done it multiple times this week using the method I posted above.

Not that I know of.  Delete the cosmetic, and replace it with a curve.  Problem solved.

I've used cosmetic groove stuff a lot to provide text for engraving, particularly when I'm being a fancy lad and wanting to engrave company logos, precisely located scales, etc. Especially when I want the stuff being engraved to be *exactly* like I have it modeled. But that's a special case, perhaps.

Make sure your cosmetic sketch layer is not hidden (you can check it thru view >> layers)

And then try to save as step, with settings that tbraxton mentioned,

It should be including cosmetic sketch into step file
