How to include parameters in copy geometry to be used in new part BOM

Hi all,

I am on Creo Parametric 8.0.5.0. I am attempting to give a skeleton part a parameter, create published geometry of it, use copy geom in another part to pull in geometry and this parameter, and then display this parameter on the drawing in a pre-established repeat region. This needs to be done with as little adjustments to the top level part as possible.

I've accomplished half of this so far by creating the parameter at the surface, body, or curve level of the skeleton part so it is included in the published geometry. When I pull the published geometry into a part using copy geom, the parameter appears in the part if I look at parameters at all sublevels of the part. However, the BOM repeat region that I am using uses mdl.param.name to find and add items with a certain prefix to the repeat region. I am assuming that it is reading parameters made at the part level NOT at feature, surface, etc level so it will not populate anything coming from the copy geom parameters since they are not at the part level.

Any suggestions on how to accomplish this? Thanks!

Assuming that the parameter comes across as a feature parameter of the copy geometry as you explain above; you would then need to designate that feature parameter for use in the repeat region.

Check out this article with details on how to do it: Article - CS256077 - How to designate a feature parameter to be used in a repeat region in Creo Parametric (ptc.com)

Designate appears to allow use of part parameters at the assembly level. Is there a way to use it at the part level for copy geoms like I am doing? I am attempting to get a parameter from an import geometry part into the receiving part's BOM. (So part to part instead of part to assembly, if that makes sense.)

Hi,

if your BOM repeat region contains assembly information then you cannot use &mdl.param.name callout. Instead of it use &asm.mbr.name callout.
