How to make a hole by using pattern command

I want to make four holes in the the surface of a cube with equal distance.

There are several ways to do this. If they are linearly situated, you only need on direction; you can use Pattern>Dimension if one of the hole's positioning dimensions is in the direction you desire; or you can use Pattern>Direction and select a side or plane to denote the direction; or you could even use a sketch with datum points to map the holes to the locations desired (best for non-regular pattering).

Direction and dimension patterns can be distributed in X-Y matrices as well, this is the second direction in the dialog. In fact, deeper in the dialog, you will be able to create diagonal vectors as well.
