ABSTRACT: Pro/E Mechanism option should provide a tool that facilitates ability to specify different color shades for ‘Spring Components.’ In addition Pro/E Mechanism option should permit assigning various limited or unlimited end criteria for both compression and tension springs.
BACKGROUND: When we create a spring in a Mechanism by specifying ‘spring’ option from Mechanism constraints Pro/E shades the spring in Blue color, invariably. There is no “config.pro” or such other means which can be used to specify a different color shade for the spring that is automatically created in Pro/E (when we select springs in mechanisms). It is very easy to perceive that it may be easy – to just specify the Red/Green/Blue shade level count (a number between 0 and 255) and Pro/E can change or regenerate the colors of the springs as desired by the application user. This will be an important issue when we create a complex mechanism with multiple springs. In that case one would prefer to shade different springs within the same mechanism in different colors of one’s choice. In addition in a commercial setting this would build good aesthetics for a simulation.
Secondly, at the current levels Creo Parametric does not offer the tools and options using which one can change the end criteria. Examples of such end conditions are hooks at the ends for the tension springs, ends wound flat ends ground flat, torsion spring ends (with ends bent to grip). It will be very useful if such end conditions and shapes could be incorporated in the springs that are created in Pro/E Mechanisms using the spring constraints.
Pro/E (all versions) already offers the ability to model a spring and make it flexible so that the springs would regenerate to different lengths and pitches depending on certain relations. It is normal to perceive that this feature definition could be extended to Mechanism constrains enriching the capabilities of Pro/E.
Pro/E provides an option to change the pitch of the spring and other parameters apart from just adjusting the diameter of the icon or the spring.
CLAIMS: Apart from providing the ability to generate appropriate simulation representations in a research setting such as ours, this enhancement would be very welcome for commercial users as well since they would be able to represent the springs in its true form and shape.
