MP calculate automatic not working for new features

MP calculate automatic not working for new features

In Creo 2.0 there is a bug that causes mass properties not to be fully calculated despite having the option mass_property_calculate set to automatic.

When adding new/additional features the mass properties are not fully solve until a second regen is completed. You will only see this if:

1. you have mass_property_calculate automatic

2. you watch the stop sign (lower right will stay yellow after creation of new features)

3.The feature is a new feature

Modifications to existing features thatchange theMP will be calculated correctly without the additonal regen.

I am waiting on PTC's R&D for a solution or SPR. Anyone have a workaround besidesregenerating twice for new features?

Thanks,

Tim

I could have it wrong, but I think it is much bigger than that.
Try assemblies.
No matter how many times you regen, in some assemblies you may never get the mass properties of all the subcomponents to update.
When you save, you now get a warning dialog that pops up to alert you to the effect some mass properties were not updated.
This bug has been reported since the beginning of Creo 2 at least, as far as I know there is no fix and I am not aware of a planned release that would have the fix in it.

The worst part of this bug is that when one gets the warning at save the default action is cancel not save. We've lost hours of work more than once because the user hit save, hit enter and then exited Creo thinking he had saved.

There was an SPR [1] on what sounded like a related issue related to the traffic light remaining yellow after regen that was to be fixed in M060. I had hoped then that this would be corrected as well but it is not. The SPR still says it is expected to be resolved in M060, but based on my experience it is not. The SPR says it is reported in M040 but the related CS doc indicates that it affects all datecodes of Creo 1.0 & 2.0.

Thanks guys. I am familiar with the items Doug mentions and I currently have this item listed as critical with Customer Support. M060 does not fix the issue and like I mentioned I am still waiting on R&D to provide a fix or generate another SPR.

Just looking for other options (besides another CAD tool).

Thanks

Hi,
In Creo 2.0 M070 using Edit Definition and changing any dimension in an existing feature only update the geometry, but not the mass properties, so not just for new features.
Using Edit + regen when possible is a good habit.

Seems to me the only valid way of updating mass properties is by regenerating once before you save and getting the green light or using File > Prepare > Model Properties.

Has anyone tried inserting a Mass Properties feature, moving it to the footer and then testing?

Don,

We have an analysis feature in the footer (Creo 2, M050) and this behavior is consistent with what we see.

Ok. I didn't see the thread mention one way or another and it's always good to double check the simpler possibilities for a solution.
