I've added a column for the material in my family table using PTC_MATERIAL_NAME. However, any instance that doesn't use the assigned Generic material has a regeneration issue. Whenever I press regenerate it says "Material XXXX was assigned to the part" in the message log. And this occurs for any higher level assemblies that use this part. I'm expecting no regeneration to occur if nothing has changed. The higher level assy should say "Automatic regeneration of the parts has been completed.". However, with the instance inside of the assembly, it doesn't say that. It keep on regenerating the assembly and saying "Material XXXXX was assigned to the part. Automatic regeneration of the parts has been completed." I would like to avoid this at all costs because I don't like my assemblies to regenerate if nothing has changed. It causes nightmares when the assembly is promoted and released in Windchill but still used in higher level assemblies. Can anyone help me with this? The easy answer would be to not have the PTC_Material_Name in the family table. I would like to avoid that if possible.
One of these days I'll push for an SPR. I've got so many things to deal with now. lol.
I've been able to apply an appearance within a Material to a regular part without a problem.
Ok. you convinced me. I opened tickets for the 2 material family table issues (cases C11867065 and C11867066). We'll see where this goes.
Support filed SPR# 2212309 for the Material assignment message/issue.
FYI: PTC's official stance with colors in material appearances for family tables is:
https://www.ptc.com/appserver/cs/view/solution.jsp?n=CS136141
https://www.ptc.com/appserver/cs/view/solution.jsp?n=CS35751
Apparently it is not part of the functionality and not considered a bug or an issue.
Thanks for the update.
Hi David,
I'm sorry, but I don't have any fixes for colors in family tables.
I've discussed a similar issue within the TC's to enable multiple WTParts to be associated to a singl CAD Document to account for colors, but I don't think it went anywhere. There was another TC session aimed at defining something like a Windchill Material that could then be assigned to a CAD document, but I don't believe that went anywhere either.
I do have a question regarding your ERP getting material information through Windchill.
When you apply the material through the family table, does that populate a designated parameter that goes into Windchill and is subsequently read by your ERP interface?
Thanks,
Josh
