Model dimension offset

Is it possible to lock a dimension with an offset to a face of the model?

Now, when I change the length of a profile, the dimensions are not staying outside the model.

To the best of my knowledge, no, there is no way to keep dimensions conveniently located. And the behavior of linear dimensions is minor compared to what angular dimensions do.
